The stupidity of Western ignorant students surpasses all understanding. Part of the problem is the utter indolence of governments to educate the young.
Students urged to call off October 7 Palestine march
Police have urged student groups planning a pro-Palestinian march on the third anniversary of the October 7 massacre to reschedule, warning of the distress it would cause to the Jewish community.
Student groups plan to march on Wednesday from King’s College London and University College London to mark the anniversary of the attacks in which Hamas killed more than 1,200 civilians and took 251 hostages.
The Metropolitan Police said they had been unable to find the organisers to ask them to “carefully consider” the effect the march would have. James Harman, deputy assistant commissioner, said nobody had been willing to take responsibility as the organiser.
Police have also asked King’s College London, the London School of Economics, Soas University of London and University College London for help.
Harman said that policing 35 large protests since October 2023 had cost the Met £26.6m, rising to £90m to include the opportunity cost of diverted resources.
Next week’s march has been advertised by the University of London federation, which says it is a collective of student groups organising for “Palestine liberation” as a call to “take to the street and demand an end to the Palestinian genocide”.
Israel has been accused of genocide in its bombing campaign in Gaza, where the death toll has included thousands of children.
Harman said: “Serious concerns have been expressed about the impact of this march on students and staff, particularly those who are Jewish: the route and the day it is being held.
“Finding the organisers, frankly, has so far proved difficult. So I use this opportunity today to urge them to reconsider and to make contact with us urgently, so they can plan their events on a different date.”
Raphi Leon, president of the Union of Jewish Students, said: “There are 365 days of the year. The decision to protest on this day is provocative, deliberate and must be condemned to the fullest extent.”
Officers have promised to take a “robust approach” if the march goes ahead, imposing strict conditions where intelligence indicates a risk of serious disorder or disruption or that others would be threatened and intimidated.
