Putin loses his Balkan Trojan horse With Russia’s influence over Serbia and Hungary on the decline, the Kremlin may be turning to more drastic methods to threaten Europe’s eastern flank. Citywide euphoria breaks out in Belgrade, Serbia, on 26th October 2026 as former President Vucic admits defeat on election night. ZUMA Press, Inc. For a decade, Vladimir Putin’s reach in the Balkans has been tangible on the streets of Belgrade. The St Sava Orthodox temple, which towers over the city on the Vračar Hill, looks ancient but was finished only in 2020, its vast interior mosaics paid for by Gazprom . The Russian state propaganda outlets Sputnik and RT have Serbian branches, but most of the local media also broadcast the Kremlin’s line. Since the invasion of Ukraine there have been pro-Russian marches in which Serbian participants held images of Putin aloft – despite Belgrade also being a hub for Russian dissidents. All of this was possible because of Aleksandar Vučić, who came to power...

Google researchers are fighting the company to tell the world what they know about AI In London — a major base for its AI division, Google DeepMind, which grew out of the 2014 acquisition of a British start-up — some staff members are forbidden by their employment contracts from criticizing the company for the rest of their lives, even if they leave the firm, according to a contract reviewed by The Washington Post and interviews with two current Google DeepMind workers. The workers spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid retribution from the company. The non-disparagement agreements signed by employees in Britain block them from communicating with the public about the potential impacts of AI, the two current Google workers said. While company officials are now saying that they will not go after former employees who speak out, some staffers are pushing for updated language in existing contracts to provide them with legal certainty. The internal conflict is the latest sign o...

TRY AND EXECUTE TRAITOR HUANG!

Opinion The Editorial Board Trump Has Failed. Hold Him to Account. Oct. 27, 2026 Blue stickers that read “I voted” with an American flag surround a black-and-white image of President Trump, with only his head and hand in view. Credit...Illustration by The New York Times Listen · 12:54 min By The Editorial Board The editorial board is a group of opinion journalists whose views are informed by expertise, research, debate and certain longstanding values. It is separate from the newsroom. President Trump has encouraged voters to pretend he is on the ballot for the Nov. 3 midterm elections, and this time we can agree with his political advice. Americans should be thinking of the Trump administration as they vote for members of Congress and state officials. Voters should keep in mind Mr. Trump’s failure to keep his campaign promises, his attempts to undermine American democracy and his flagrant corruption. They should be thinking of the Republican Party’s acquiescence to this abus...

What a Vote for Abdul El-Sayed Means Nov. 3, 2026 Credit... Photo illustration by Daniel Ribar for The New York Times On a recent visit to Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Mich., I heard from someone who described the state’s U.S. Senate race this year as a choice either against antisemitism or for democracy. What he meant was that a vote for Mike Rogers, the Republican, was also a vote for President Trump and therefore a vote against democracy. But a vote for Abdul El-Sayed, the Democrat, was a vote not just for a stridently anti-Israel candidate but for the normalization of antisemitism that his candidacy has helped to produce. Temple Israel is the synagogue where, in March, a Hezbollah-inspired terrorist rammed a gasoline- and fireworks-laden truck through its doors with the intention (as the attacker said in a prerecorded video) of killing “as many of them as I possibly can.” The stakes in the race were again brought home after Representative Haley Stevens, who ha...

Nvidia Tells Data Center Clients to Trim China Business, FT Says Save Translate 0:57 Nvidia Corp. has instructed its cloud computing clients to scale back their exposure to Chinese companies, the Financial Times reported , citing unidentified people. The main provider of chips for training and running large language models told its customers to make sure they sell at least 51% of their services to companies outside China, according to the newspaper. For years, Washington has sought to restrict the sale of Nvidia’s most advanced AI chips to China, citing national security concerns. The US has also sought to dismantle smuggling rings that move the semiconductors into the country. Nvidia’s new compliance rules will apply to its clients across the world, the FT reported. But they will only influence future contracts and existing leasing deals won’t be impacted. In response to questions from the FT, Nvidia said “Datacenters and clouds built on American chips are the foundation that A...
